Publishers Pugware and Red Art Games have announced that Skautfold: Shrouded in Sanity will arrive digitally on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on February 11, 2022. A physical PlayStation 4 release is also being offered, with orders for that opening on February 10. Skautfold: Shrouded in Sanity is an action adventure inspired by the original Resident Evil, Dark Souls, and Eternal Darkness, but this game is 2D and uses (admittedly bland) pixel art. It originally launched on Steam in 2016, where it garnered a “very positive” reception among users.
The game takes place in the “alternative historical setting of 1897 Angelic Empire of Britannia,” and you have been contracted to get rid of supernatural fog surrounding Berelai Manor, which sure sounds Castlevania-meets-Demon’s Souls-ish. The people who work at the manor have gone crazy and become violent, and their madness is “rooted in a deeper understanding of cosmic insignificance,” which will mean absolutely nothing to anyone but might be a nod to H.P. Lovecraft. Meanwhile, you will fight back using an “Iaito cane” and “Waltham A9” hand cannon, which I think are made-up terms? Basically, the PR for this game is worthless.
Skautfold: Shrouded in Sanity is a game that exists and is coming to Switch and other consoles next week. Play it if you feel like it.
