The highlight trailers for Shovel Knight Showdown continue to pour out ahead of the December release of the action-packed arena brawler. This time, we get a look at the combat abilities of armor-clad heroine Shield Knight and upcoming spinoff protagonist King Knight.

Shield Knight comes to Shovel Knight Showdown with a variety of unique abilities that put her trusty pair of bucklers to good use. She can fling her giant shield around the stage with her Shield Toss attack or deliver quick blows to her opponents with a Buckler Blow. She can even use a mid-air Rush ability to navigate the arena or use a Shield Rush variant to knock down anyone in her path.

The King Knight trailer, meanwhile, is interesting in that it gives us a new look at some of the moves we can expect to use as the all-gold crusader when his spinoff campaign, Shovel Knight: King of Cards, releases later this year. Until then, we can see him Spin, Shoulder Bash, and Roll his way over and into various combatants in Shovel Knight Showdown. He can also toss out bomb-wielding rats and misdirect their trajectory to keep his enemies guessing.

Shovel Knight Showdown is set to include over 16 playable combatants to duke it out across various iconic stages from the original game. Up to four players can fight together in competitive free-for-alls or team battles, as well as more unique modes like Gem Clash and Showdown. Fight for your honor in one-on-one duels as well or dive into Story Mode to experience unique multistage journeys for each of the playable characters in the game.

Shovel Knight Showdown is set to launch as a free update to Shovel Knight and a standalone release this December on Nintendo Switch, Wii U, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, PC, Mac, Linux, and Amazon FireTV.
