Shovel Knight Showdown: Reize from your grave for this Dark Reize trailer

Shovel Knight Showdown - Dark Reize character highlight

How long have we been doing this? How long have we been here, watching these Shovel Knight Showdown trailers? Every night, another knight. Every morning, yet another. It’s only been days, yet it feels like I’ve known these trailers for a lifetime. They’re like family to me now. We’ve seen the airborne action of Propeller Knight and the gadget-based brawling of Tinker Knight. We’ve witnessed Mona utilize the dark arts and Mr. Hat utilize the hat arts. As the Dec. 10 release date for this multiplayer brawler looms ever closer, I start to wonder… will I miss it? Will I miss this morning ritual, this one constant in this wacky, unpredictable world we live in? Will I still be me, once these trailers are gone?

Anyways, here’s the character highlight trailer for Dark Reize!

If he seems familiar to you, you aren’t going crazy. We’ve seen regular ol’ Reize in action in Shovel Knight Showdown before, flinging boomerangs and all. Dark Reize is an alternate version of that plucky hero with a slightly altered move set and a much nastier disposition. His dual boomerangs have become a double-edged energy blade that he can use to Dark Slash at any incoming opponents. He can also teleport (specifically, “Teleport (Dark)”) around the field to keep his enemies guessing on where he’ll strike from next. Dark ReizeĀ  has a nasty Dark Dive Kick that can deal serious damage as well, on top of a follow-up Darkness Rising blow that strikes anyone lucky enough to dodge the first attack. Finally, his Dark Boomerang can be flung around to deal ranged damage and even placed in a stationary position to fire off pulsing energy blasts.

Shovel Knight Showdown is set to include over 16 playable combatants to duke it out across various iconic stages from the original game. Up to four players can fight together in competitive free-for-alls or team battles, as well as more unique modes like Gem Clash and Showdown. Fight for your honor in one-on-one duels, or dive into Story Mode to experience unique multistage journeys for each of the playable characters in the game.

Shovel Knight Showdown will launch as a free update to Shovel Knight and a standalone release this December. It will come to basically Nintendo Switch but not Nintendo 3DS due to its lack of local multiplayer.
