Shovel Knight Showdown digs into Reize gameplay trailer

Another day, another Shovel Knight Showdown trailer. The arena-brawling follow-up to indie darling Shovel Knight is arriving Dec 10, and Yacht Club Games has decided to drop character highlight trailers for all of the playable combatants with which we can expect to square up in the full release. The latest trailer shows off the boomerang-wielding young knight Reize.

Reize is an interesting character because, unlike most of the playable fighters on the roster, he isn’t actually a character created by Yacht Club Games for the Shovel Knight series. Instead, he was one of a handful of backer-designed secret bosses in the original Shovel Knight game, alongside other internet darlings like Mr. Hat and The Baz.

In Shovel Knight Showdown, though, he’s no longer relegated to just being a boss. You’ll be able to dive kick and fling jump as the acrobatic young warrior to catch your opponents by surprise, or use a quick Hedgespin attack to push your foes away. Of course, Reize wouldn’t be complete without his trusty pair of giant deadly boomerangs, which you can fling in any direction to deal serious damage.

Shovel Knight Showdown is set to include over 16 playable combatants to duke it out across various iconic stages from the original game. Up to four players can fight together in competitive free-for-alls or team battles, as well as more unique modes like Gem Clash and Showdown. Fight for your honor in one-on-one duels as well, or dive into Story Mode to experience unique multistage journeys for each of the playable characters in the game.

Shovel Knight Showdown is set to launch as a free update to Shovel Knight and a standalone release this December. It will come to Nintendo Switch, Wii U, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, PC, Mac, Linux, and Amazon FireTV.
