Sephiroth is joining the Smash Ultimate roster this month as its next fighter

Sephiroth Final Fantasy VII

Tonight’s edition of The Game Awards started off with a bang, as the next Super Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC fighter was revealed immediately. Joining Final Fantasy VII‘s Cloud Strife, Sephiroth, the One-Winged Angel himself, is on his way sometime this month. Sephiroth follows ARMS‘ Min Min and Minecraft‘s Steve as DLC fighters from the second fighter pack.

The Smash fighter reveal trailers are always really well done, and Sephiroth’s is no exception. Set to the iconic One-Winged Angel, we see Sephiroth obliterate fighter after fighter, before facing off against Cloud in a final showdown. We also see a little bit of gameplay, including Sephiroth using his katana to propel himself upwards off a wall and counter incoming attacks, as well as what I can only assume is his final smash.

As a neat little fact, it was almost five years ago today that we got Cloud as DLC for Super Smash Bros. for 3DS and Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, so the timing of this announcement makes a lot of sense, intentional or not. No official date was shown off, but given that Sephiroth is coming this month, I imagine it won’t be long before we get an official date, along with a moveset breakdown as with the other DLC fighters. This reveal also means that we’ll be getting a Sephiroth amiibo at some point, as well as Sephiroth Kirby!

If you’ve ever wanted to relive the epic showdown from the end of Final Fantasy VII, this will be a great chance to do it.
