Sega Genesis Classics coming to Nintendo Switch later this year

The hits just keep on coming to the Nintendo Switch. No matter which gaming era you grew up in, it seems there is something for everyone coming out every week. This is especially true for the retro crowd: Neo Geo fans have a wide selection of titles from the well-known to super obscure. Nintendo fans will have a decent selection of NES hits with their online service. Now Sega fans will join in the action with the announcement that Sega Genesis Classics is coming to Nintendo Switch.

Originally released for Steam back in 2010, Sega Genesis Classics eventually released for consoles in May of this year. Now with a Switch port, fans can scratch that retro itch either at home or on the go with ease.

No price point has been announced yet, but PS4 and Xbox One versions released to $30. However, many of the features present in previously released ports will be included here. This includes “online multiplayer, achievements, mirror modes, rewind and save states” as stated by Sega. One must wonder how achievements will be implemented on the Nintendo platform since no such universal system is in place.

The curious lack of Sonic 3 & Knuckles is still a glaring hole, but otherwise, this is a solid lineup. Couple that with the Joy-Con optimized for easy co-op, and you have another solid pickup for old school gaming.

Sega Genesis Classics will be available on Nintendo Switch some time “this winter.”
