Remember Scott Pilgrim? The comic’s finale and the movie released 11 years ago, as well as an incredibly stylish video game that recently got a Switch port. While there were a few digressions from the main storyline in the form of comics and an animated short, the story of Scott, Ramona, and their friends was settled pretty conclusively, leaving precious little room for a sequel. However, that doesn’t mean author Bryan Lee O’Malley is done with his franchise just yet. According to the Hollywood Reporter, a Scott Pilgrim anime adaptation is being developed for Netflix, though it has yet to receive an official series order.
O’Malley will be writing and executive producing with BenDavid Grabinski, who recently brought Are You Afraid of the Dark? back for Nickelodeon. The anime studio Science SARU (Devilman Crybaby, Space Dandy) will be working on this Scott Pilgrim anime, and Edgar Wright and Nira Park will also be involved as executive producers. Even if the show hasn’t been officially greenlit yet, Netflix isn’t in the business of causing its fans infinite sadness, so the fact that it’s in development at all is a great sign.
