Samus’s Power Suit is gradually repairing itself in Metroid Dread

Metroid is finally set to receive its first HD entry on Nintendo Switch this October. That means we finally get to see the iconic Power Suit in HD, but it’s not exactly how we remember it. Samus is sporting a new look in Metroid Dread, and Nintendo has hinted in the past that there’s a story reason.

The Power Suit in Metroid Dread

The latest Metroid Dread Report just dropped, and it contains some new details. As it turns out, it’s got everything to do with Metroid Fusion. Here’s what the development team had to say.

In the Metroid Dread game, Samus’s suit appears to have changed quite a bit from her previous missions. In the Metroid Fusion game, Samus’ suit was greatly transformed after the emergency removal of pieces eroded by the X parasite and a life-saving injection of the Metroid vaccine—resulting in an organic appearance for her suit. Now, her suit is gradually returning to its original, mechanical Power Suit form.

In Metroid Dread, the Power Suit is repairing itself, transforming from organic to mechanical. My mind is already racing with questions and possibilities. Is this just a simple story explanation for the aesthetic change, or will it impact gameplay? Past games included suit upgrades like the Varia Suit and Gravity Suit, but Dread could shake that formula up. Perhaps Samus will be slowly become more recognizable throughout the game, unlocking powers that she lost along the way.
