Samurai Shodown is joining the small roster of current generation fighting games on the Switch pretty soon. The Japanese version of the game is releasing on Dec. 12, and the new trailer shows off just how good it looks on the Switch. No North American release date has been given as of yet.
Seeing the Samurai Shodown roster duke it out in glorious 60 frames per second reassures us that no technical compromises have been made. For fighting games, the most important quality is stability. This may be a bit on the slower side compared to other Switch fighters like Dragon Ball FighterZ and BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle, but the high-risk high-reward combat demands every single frame be perfect.
Also shown in the trailer is the early purchase bonus of Samurai Shodown! 2, a Neo Geo Pocket Color game. The trailer shows a severely small window surrounded by a Neo Geo Pocket Color. Hopefully, this is just to illustrate the original system and not how SNK expects us to play the game.
With such great looking Switch support for Samurai Shodown, it begs the question of what other games we might see from SNK in the future. Maybe we’ll get to see a just-as-stunning port of The King of Fighters XIV on the console.
