Once a nebulous Q4 2019 release date, Samurai Shodown for the Switch will now be available on Dec. 12 in Japan, according to Famitsu. The game released earlier this year on the PS4 and Xbox One on June 25 in North America. Japan actually got the game two days later on June 27. This means that a similar release date for the North American version can be expected. The PC version of Samurai Shodown still holds that fun Q4 placeholder date.
Also according to Famitsu, the Switch version will run at 60 frames per second, meaning that this version will be just as viable in the competitive scene. Samurai Shodown was on the Evo main stage this year, but I wouldn’t hold your breath on seeing the Switch version as the tournament-official version next year.
Buying the game early on will get you a digital copy of Samurai Shodown! 2 at some point. Many of the classic Shodown games are already available on the Switch, and a more robust Samurai Shodown NeoGeo Collection is coming sometime this year as well. If you’ve never played one of SNK’s super stylish fighting games, now’s the time.
As someone with a thing for slow and methodical fighting games, I’ll definitely be looking forward to this release. Are you excited for Samurai Shodown on the Switch? Planning on double-dipping if you already own the PS4/Xbox One version? Let us know in the comments.
