Way back during the spectacular February 2019 Nintendo Direct, a once-thought-dead franchise was shown to be very much alive. Not only are we getting Rune Factory 4 Special sometime this year, but we’re also getting Rune Factory 5 sometime in 2020, the first game in the franchise since 2012. During the Nintendo Direct, all we received was a logo on a plain background, but it was enough to know the franchise was alive.
On July 25 at 10 p.m. JST/ 4 a.m. PT/7 a.m. ET, Marvelous’s Japanese YouTube channel will be hosting its fourth Rune Factory 4 Special live stream to promote its Japanese launch the same day, as well as reveal a few more details. The live stream will also be giving the first details for Rune Factory 5. Previous streams covered new features being added to the port of the 3DS game.
Marvelous has been tight-lipped about the next entry to the franchise since its reveal. We can’t expect a North American release date announcement for either of the games since this is a Japanese live stream. However, when they come, the two Rune Factory games will be joining Doraemon Story of Seasons on the Switch, as well as the remake of Harvest Moon: Friends of Mineral Town (now known as Story of Seasons: Reunion at Mineral Town).
