As usual for a story like this, let me just emphatically draw your attention to that first word in the title: rumor. With that in mind, a Reddit post has emerged with alleged new details of the The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild sequel, said to be taken from the Twitch stream of Tyler McVicker, who maintains the Valve News Network YouTube channel. True to its name, that channel provides news and leaks on Valve projects, but McVicker apparently claims knowledge of projects beyond Valve, including the Breath of the Wild sequel.
Breath of the Wild sequel leaks?
According to a Reddit summarization, these are new details revealed about Link’s next adventure:
- The game will be linear at the beginning.
- A “miasmic version of Ganon” now fills the world, and his “infection” must be cleansed in each area before progress to another section of Hyrule opens up.
- Locations have more depth to them, and dungeons may be making a return, with inspiration taken from a particular unspecified game.
- The Breath of the Wild sequel is inspired by Red Dead Redemption 2 (Nintendo has mentioned this game before.) and another unspecified game.
These details are plausible, especially if the game takes place in the same basic Hyrule we’re already familiar with and the developers need a way to spice things up. Segmenting the world would be a significant change of pace from Breath of the Wild, but at the same time, Majora’s Mask was a significant change of pace from Ocarina of Time.
There’s no way to know if these rumors are true until Nintendo gives official word, which — if Nintendo Direct reports are true — could be very soon. Until then, proceed with extreme caution when it comes to rumors.
Nonetheless, what do you make of these alleged The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild sequel leaks?
