Rumor: Massive GeForce NOW leak says Final Fantasy IX remake, Tactics & Chrono Cross remaster may exist

massive Nvidia GeForce NOW leak Final Fantasy IX remake Final Fantasy Tactics remaster Chrono Cross Resident Evil 4 Dragon's Dogma 2

There has been a massive leak of data in the guts of the Nvidia GeForce NOW service, yielding a tremendous list of games that may be in development or may have at least been planned at some point — including a Chrono Cross remaster, a Final Fantasy Tactics remaster, a Final Fantasy IX remake, and even the Resident Evil 4 remake. Of course, you should approach all of this with great skepticism.

A huge GeForce NOW leak, Dolphin emulator, Final Fantasy IX remake and Tactics remaster, and the kitchen sink

Now let’s back up and discuss how we got to this point. Four months ago, programmer Ighor July began poking around the guts of the Nvidia GeForce NOW service, which allows people to stream select PC games. July explains that GeForce NOW operated differently half a year ago than it does now, and he was ultimately able to access a variety of log files that the public should not have access to, which July reported to Nvidia but no action was taken.

Now, July has shown how he found the records on YouTube, which is currently a repeatable process, it seems. He discovered a record of over 18,000 games, many of which will never come to GeForce NOW but seem to be there for third-party testing purposes, but some may also be there in the back end for the piracy-ish benefit of Nvidia employees. He found Mafia, PlayStation’s God of War, and even the Dolphin emulator for emulating GameCube / Wii games — New Super Mario Bros. Wii is even listed!

Via a Reddit thread and as compiled by SteamDB creator Pavel Djundik (who also cautions skepticism), a massive GitHub list of games from the GeForce NOW leak has emerged, including the listings for a Final Fantasy IX remake, Chrono Cross and Final Fantasy Tactics remaster, the Resident Evil 4 remake, and even things like a Dragon’s Dogma 2 and a Mega Man Match. (Mega Man Match would agree with the Capcom hack, which indicated a Rockman Taisen is in development.) Industry insider and Windows Central writer Jez Corden believes the leaks are genuine, and he noted that two Microsoft “codenames” found in the data, “Holland” and “Typhoon,” refer to Fable and Contraband respectively.

Via Reddit, here’s a sampling of the games found in the GeForce NOW leak:

Square Enix:

Chrono Cross Remaster

FF Tactics remaster

FF7 Remake

FF9 Remake

FF 16

Tomb Raider Anniversary (2021)

Unannounced title by Square Enix

Take Two: (owns Bioshock IP and Rockstar):

Batman: Arkham Knight RTX Remaster

Half-Life 2 Remastered

Project FPS

It’s worth reiterating that even if these listings are all completely genuine, it does not mean all of these games are in active development; they could just be abandoned projects. Don’t let the GeForce NOW leak get your hopes up high at all for a genuine Final Fantasy IX remake, but the possibility of a remaster for Final Fantasy Tactics or Chrono Cross seems a little higher. In any case, let us know what you think of this wild data.

At present, a Final Fantasy IX children’s show is in development, and the very Tactics-ish Project Triangle Strategy will appear at Tokyo Game Show 2021 Online.
