Rumor: Call of Duty site code references Switch, but should we be excited?

The internet is chock-full of spoiled sports that want to know everything before anyone else. Dataminers fall under this category. People that just go diving into site code also fit the bill. In this case, BadFive has uncovered mention of “Nintendo Switch” in the site code for the Call of Duty website. They claim that this is “proof” that the next Call of Duty game will come to Switch… but is it really?

Call of Duty site code references Nintendo Switch, but should we be excited?

A second look at the Call of Duty site data also contains references to Wii U and Nintendo 3DS. Do we suppose that this blockbuster FPS has a Wii U port in the works? Yeah, I’m sure that’ll happen right around the time Elvis and Tupac do a duet.

The reality is that, when companies build websites, sometimes a lot of copy/paste of prior projects is involved. It’s harmless and irrelevant, unless somebody has the bright idea to go swimming around in every snippet of code.

Granted, all of this isn’t to say the game definitely won’t come to Switch, but we can’t use this piece of code on a website as definitive proof of it. In any case, big Call of Duty news is scheduled to hit in less than an hour, so we’ll likely know one way or the other soon.

[Update: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will come to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on Oct. 25. No mentions of a Switch or Wii U release as of yet. How shocking.]
