We never feel good about reporting rumors about delays on games that haven’t even been officially announced, but it’s 2020 and this is just the fugly Nintendo news landscape we’ve inherited. Via VGC, the Nate the Hate Nintendo podcast is claiming that the long-rumored 3D Mario remasters have been delayed considerably past the actual 35th anniversary date of Super Mario Bros., which is Sept. 13. Granted, at this point, you could have guessed that yourself, but the podcast gets a bit more specific about when we can expect the games to arrive. Notably, Super Mario 3D World Deluxe may be pushed to 2021.
According to VGC, Nate the Hate correctly predicted August’s Indie World Showcase and Nintendo Direct Mini ahead of their formal announcement, so the sources used have an air of legitimacy. And the podcast stated this time that the announcement of the 3D Mario remasters collection will likely occur this month, but that’s all. A release date closer to the holidays is likely now, between early October and November according to how Nintendo wants to pace holiday releases. A tie-in Mario-themed console bundle may be part of that holiday release.
To reiterate, this rumored remaster collection is expected to include at least Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, and Super Mario Galaxy. A Super Mario 3D World Deluxe is anticipated to release separately, but potentially not this year anymore.
“I think you’re going to see 3D World Deluxe get delayed out of the 35th anniversary party,” the podcast stated, “and it’s going to come out in January of 2021. And they’ll kind of do like they did with the Year of Luigi where they extended it like a few months because delays happened.”
So, to summarize the podcast reports: The 3D Super Mario remasters collection of Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, and Super Mario Galaxy is still expected to come this year, between October and November, and a Mario console bundle may come along for the ride. Super Mario 3D World Deluxe may be delayed to January 2021 though.
We shall see shortly in the coming months how accurate these statements are (assuming COVID doesn’t delay more things), but right now, the one guarantee is that Pikmin 3 Deluxe is coming Oct. 30.
