The Riot Forge Showcase with Nintendo Switch felt like a celebration of the League of Legends franchise — except specifically focused on the aspects of the franchise that will land on a Nintendo platform. Lots of different developers showed up to discuss their games in the works, such as Airship Syndicate CEO and creative director (and legendary artist) Joe Madureira to discuss Ruined King: A League of Legend Story. Many elements were touched upon, but the biggest announcement from Riot Forge and Airship Syndicate is that Ruined King: A League of Legends Story is out today, with a release date of now-ish, November 16, 2021, on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
Ruined King is a turn-based RPG with a heavier focus on story than Battle Chasers: Nightwar had, about a group of champions from around the world converging on Bilgewater to stop the rebirth of the Ruined King. Miss Fortune and Illaoi are key characters. Yasuo, Ahri, and Pyke are here too though, among others. Interestingly, the game has a “lane system” where you can modify the speed of abilities and modify powers during combat, and it sounds like a compelling innovation on systems established in games like Grandia and Final Fantasy X. You can find out for yourself soon, with Ruined King: A League of Legends Story out today on Nintendo Switch and other platforms.
