Road to Guangdong is heading to Nintendo Switch later this month, and publisher Excalibur Games has reminded us that preorders are now live. If you’re interested in this serene drive across picturesque China, pre-purchasing on the Nintendo eShop nets you a launch discount. It’s currently 10% off at $22.50. Road to Guangdong releases Aug. 28.
If a cartridge is more your jam, last month we reported on a physical edition release. This version of Road to Guangdong comes with physical recipe cards based off in-game recipes and an exclusive booklet. That version has been out since Aug. 7 in Asia and was set to release alongside the digital version in Western markets. However, on the publisher’s website, boxed versions currently have a shipping date of Sept. 4.
Road to Guangdong places you in the shoes of 23-year-old graduate Sunny. You’ll embark on a road trip with your 68-year-old aunt Guu Ma, while attempting to maintain the weathered yet beloved family car, “Sandy.” After Sunny unexpectedly inherits her family’s restaurant, she sets out with Guu Ma to “visit distant relatives, rekindle relationships,” and “discover secret family recipes.”
Looking after Sandy the car is a major part of Road to Guangdong. If you don’t look after it properly along the journey, you won’t make it. Players must also be careful when making dialog choices. These will shape Sunny’s character, her relationships with family members, and affect how the story plays out.
Road to Guangdong launches Aug. 28 on the Switch eShop with preorders open now. The physical version ships on Sept. 4.
