Title not included: PlatinumGames wants to revive Scalebound but Microsoft owns the IP

Yesterday was a great day to be a fan of PlatinumGames. First, the developer teased some upcoming projects. Then, the company announced a Kickstarter for Wonderful 101. It amassed a great sum of money very quickly. But what about the other three ventures that make up the “Platinum 4?” Fans looking for Platinum to revive the failed Xbox One exclusive, Scalebound, as one possible option, had their hearts broken today.

It’s hard to revive something that belongs to someone else

Speaking with Eurogamer Portugal, Platinum head Atsushi Inaba dashed players’ hopes with the following message regarding Scalebound:

Again, it’s a good question! But this was an intellectual property that belongs 100% to Microsoft. Whatever happens with this project, we can’t really do anything with it unless Microsoft leaves us. But it’s a game that we fall in love with and love. If the opportunity arises, it’s something we would love to return to.

It’s a bummer, but it makes sense logically. Microsoft would have to give PlatinumGames the rights to Scalebound in order for it to be resurrected. Whether the company does anything with the IP in the future remains to be seen. I mean, it has DRAGONS. Why wouldn’t you try to make it again?

Enthusiasts, are you saddened to hear Platinum cannot revive Scalebound? What are your predictions for the other three games being made? Let us know down below!
