Redout 2 revealed as a high-octane anti-gravity racing game sequel

Redout II 2 announcement trailer Nintendo Switch Saber Interactive 34BigThings

Publisher Saber Interactive and developer 34BigThings have announced futuristic racing game sequel Redout 2 for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC via Steam and Epic Games Store, launching in 2022. As its announcement trailer demonstrates, Redout 2 basically aims to be another breakneck alternative to F-Zero (since Nintendo refuses to make one). The game looks breathtaking in static screenshots and quite good in the trailer as well, but as usual, expect the visuals to take a little hit on Switch.

However, I add the qualifier “little” because 34BigThings has already proven impressively competent at preserving visual fidelity on Switch. The original Redout came to Switch in 2019, but spinoff Star Fox-like game Redout: Space Assault notably launched this past January and looks really solid on Switch. We can hope the sequel will only fare even better.

Redout 2 promises tight, deep controls with a high skill ceiling, inspired by Wipeout and F-Zero. There are 36 race tracks, which are also playable in reverse, and modes include Arena Race, Time Attack, and Last Man Standing. Twelve-player online multiplayer will be available, and the developers will add “fresh challenges” to earn “unique aesthetic rewards” with seasons of content. Vehicle customization is a big selling point as well: “Choose from 12 distinct chassis and fully customize your own hovership with an incredible selection of propulsors, stabilizers, rudders, intercoolers, flaps, magnets, wings, spoilers, rocket engines, paints and more!”

If you like to go fast, then keep an eye on this one next year.
