Railway Empire has arrived on Nintendo Switch: all aboard

Railway Empire

In what seems to be a recent resurgence of railway games, Kalypso Media Group has released Railway Empire on Nintendo Switch. This particular train sim focuses on the history of the American railway, with the trailer showing glimpses of San Fransisco and New York in the 1800s. The game released in January 2018 on PC and other consoles, with the Switch version being developed by another team.

Thankfully, the delay to Nintendo Switch means this version comes bundled with DLC. Railway Empire for Switch includes three expansions: The Great Lakes, Mexico, and Crossing the Andes. This of course extends the adventure to South America, giving players all new locations to build their railway empire. These bundled DLCs also include new soundtracks and extra Night and Snow mode. Additional European DLC (Germany, France, Great Britain, and Ireland) will be available separately at a later date.

Railway Empire

Where other train simulators focus on the driving of the vehicle, this one is as much about building a transport network. Railway Empire allows players to “Create an elaborate and wide-ranging rail network, purchase over 40 different trains modeled in extraordinary detail, and buy or build railway stations, maintenance buildings, factories and tourist attractions to keep your travel network ahead of the competition.”
