A hopeful blue streak: Sonic the Hedgehog film makes $3 million in previews, setting it up for an optimistic opening weekend

This Sonic fan film is a reminder of how Sega's mascot should look

It’s been a long time coming. After a visual debacle, which itself lead to more disaster, the Sonic the Hedgehog movie is hitting theaters this weekend. The film is already doing well for itself. Yesterday, it earned quite a bit of money on previews. The motion picture is set to make even more in finances this holiday weekend.

Based on the previews alone, Ben Schwartz will be able to afford many chili dogs

On the authority of Deadline, Sonic the Hedgehog made $3 million on Thursday night previews. Not too shabby for a video game movie!

The film is projected to make between $40-$50 million during the holiday weekend. In the United States, many individuals will be off from work and school due to Presidents’ Day on Monday. What better way to spend your free time than by seeing a blue hedgehog be edgy alongside Jim Carrey chewing the scenery?

It remains to be seen whether Sonic the Hedgehog can dethrone Detective Pikachu in the opening weekend department. That movie made $58 million during the aforementioned time period, and it has one thing Sonic might not. I am referring to the insane third act, of course. Seriously, what WAS that spiral of lunacy?

Enthusiasts, do you believe Sonic the Hedgehog will make serious bank this weekend after its healthy previews showing? Are you going to see it with friends and family? Let us know in the comment section below!
