If you’ve always been curious about Pokken Tournament DX but never jumped the fence to try it out, Nintendo has got you covered – assuming that you have a Nintendo Switch Online membership. Starting one week from today on July 29, the full game will be free for everyone to try out (the tweet below is from Nintendo of America, but other regional Nintendo accounts are confirming the same). You’ll have until midnight on August 4 to have some fun with the Pokémon fighting title. If you’ve got slow internet or are just really wanting to make sure you get the most out of this trial period, you can even pre-download the game at the link in the tweet embedded below.

If you enjoy your stint with Pokken Tournament DX so much that you then decide to buy the game, you’ll luckily be able to carry over your progress from the trial period. So long as downloading games isn’t a herculean task for your internet, taking advantage of this offer really gives you nothing to lose but a bit of your time.
This no-strings-attached free-to-play period is pretty random for a game that doesn’t appear to have received an update since 2018, but I’ll take it. If you’re not sure whether or not downloading a week of free Pokken Tournament DX is worth your bandwidth, know that Nintendo Enthusiast thought pretty highly of it when it came out, scoring the game an 8 out of 10 and calling it “another fantastic Switch release and a game that fighting fans will want to check out” in our review.
Will you be checking out Pokken Tournament DX next week? What are you anticipating? Who are you excited to play as? Do you own and love the game already? Let us know what you’re thinking in the comment section below.
