Pokémon Sword & Shield are creeping up, with their November 15 release date now exactly three weeks away. Tons of smaller bits and pieces on the games are dripping out one after the other. Three hours ago, GameXplain uploaded a video showcasing one such seemingly minor detail: the dynamic weather effects in the games’ Wild Area. Check out the short video below to see some of that weathery glory in action.
The Wild Area is already one of the most exciting prospects in Pokémon Sword & Shield for me. It looks to quite possibly be the most immersive Pokémon experience yet thanks to its full camera control and the wandering Pocket Monsters spread through the vast natural landscape. Dynamic weather might not be a major bullet point on Pokémon Sword & Shield‘s list of features, but it’s enough to add incrementally to my already ballooning excitement.
I have not played a Pokémon game in a very long time. Pokémon Sword & Shield will likely be my first non-remake from the series in over a decade (I skipped gens five, six, and seven). This year, Game Freak has caught a lot of deserved flack for their development practices, and I believe that many of those criticisms have been a long time coming. Personally, though, I do not care for a full National Dex, and new features like the Wild Area are what I have been wanting to see from the series for a long, long time, so I’m excited to try out Pokémon Sword & Shield.
