Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield, brand new mainline titles, are coming to Nintendo Switch for a simultaneous worldwide release in late 2019. This is the singular piece of news from the Pokémon Direct. The games will take place in the new Galar region, an expansive area with industry, countryside, vast plains, and craggy snow-covered mountains. The three new starter Pokémon are a grass-type chimp named Grookey, a fast fire-type rabbit named Scorbunny, and a water lizard that hides in water called Sobble.

The game looks to have a fresh camera and pretty expansive environments, so we finally have a modern, only-Switch-could-do-it Pokémon title on our hands! Catch a rerun of the video reveal of Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield below. Tsunekazu Ishihara, President and CEO of the Pokémon Company, teases at the end that more Pokémon is in the works for the year 2019.
