Pokémon Sword and Shield have been receiving criticism since it was revealed that not every single Pokémon would be in the game. Game Freak also recently released Little Town Hero, which was met with mostly negative reception. So with all this going on, Pokémon fans everywhere decided to celebrate Game Freak by making #ThankYouGameFreak trend on Twitter. And it looks like Pokémon Sword and Shield director Shigeru Ohmori noticed.
Pokémon Sword & Shield director Shigeru Ohmori: #ThankYouGameFreak is trending worldwide!? I'm thrilled…!! Sword & Shield will be released in 5 days. I'm looking forward to playing with everyone!" https://t.co/tYYupNmU4Z

As you can see via @Cheesemeister3k‘s translation, Ohmori says he was thrilled to see #ThankYouGameFreak trending. I’m sure after the struggles the developers have been through this year, it probably served as a much-needed morale boost. Ohmori added that he looks forward to playing with everyone and thanked them.
Personally, I’m glad #ThankYouGameFreak gained enough traction for Ohmori to see it. With all the negativity around Pokémon‘s National Dex controversy among other complaints, it’s nice to finally see some vocal fan positivity.
At the end of the day, it’s best to remember that people are making these games. It’s sometimes hard to think about the working man that puts in 60 hours per week to make sure a game is ready for the holidays. So if you’ve been thankful for anything Game Freak has done, I encourage you to take part in this. You don’t even have to like the direction Sword and Shield are taking the series to join in.
What do you think of Ohmori’s response? What’s your favorite thing that Game Freak has ever done? Let us know what you think in the comments!
