This is maybe the biggest curve ball of today’s Pokémon press conference. They have announced Pokémon Sleep, a new app that “tracks a user’s time sleeping and brings a gameplay experience unlike any other!” The app is being created with help from Select Button, which made Pokémon: Magikarp Jump, and the app concept is to make people look forward to waking up every morning. It will measure how long people sleep and when they wake up.
We’re pleased to announce the development of Pokémon Sleep, a new app from @Pokemon_cojp that tracks a user’s time sleeping and brings a gameplay experience unlike any other!
Several Snorlax were consulted on this, in case you were wondering. #PokemonSleep is coming in 2020. pic.twitter.com/nJ7mJY09Dl

How does it all work? We’re… not… sure yet, but it’s intended to launch in 2020.
If anything, it seems like Pokémon Sleep is an effort to salvage some of the progress made from Nintendo’s quality-of-life projects, as some reports say Nintendo’s quality-of-life division was fully dismantled recently. This is just conjecture for now though.
In any case, to commemorate the announcement of Pokémon Sleep, you will find Snorlax lounging around in droves in Pokémon GO, so I guess that’s something to look forward to?
Stay tuned for more official updates about Pokémon Sleep.
