Pokémon developers answer 101 questions about Sword and Shield

101 Pokémon Questions

Pokémon Sword and Shield‘s director Shigeru Ohmori and producer Junichi Masuda have found themselves in the hot seat for Game Informer’s latest video. They’ve answered 101 questions about the upcoming games, and some interesting bits have come out of it. Not all of the questions focused on the new games, of course. General questions about the franchise, the Pokémon, and even Ohmori and Masuda themselves came up, and some of their answers were pretty adorable.

New details revealed

Out of the new information, the biggest reveal is the confirmation that the games will not have any difficulty settings. When asked if they had ever planned for additional difficulties, both Ohmori and Masuda responded simultaneously with a confident “no.” Ohmori followed up by saying that “players can choose the right playstyle in terms of difficulty for themselves.” Pokémon Black 2 and Pokémon White 2 did have difficulty selection, however. They were the first and only games in the series to do so.

Dynamax was also touched on with a new revelation. Dynamax Pokémon are not actually growing in size – rather the Dynamax form is apparently just a projection, with the actual Pokémon itself floating somewhere inside. This might be a little tough to interpret, but I’m sure there will be plenty of speculation going forward.

Mostly just fun and games

Aside from all that, they didn’t give too many concrete answers at all. There were many I-don’t-knows, and can’t-says, especially when it came to the new games. There were many cute questions that got cute answers, too, especially when Masuda would talk about his trip to France or how there may or may not be a Mrs. Mime. There were even some questions about the Virtual Boy in there.

We won’t know the answers to many of these questions until Nov 15, when Sword and Shield release. For now, take a look at the video and watch the veteran developers have some fun. We’ve been covering a lot of big news on Sword and Shield lately, from big competitive changes to system functions, so go check that out too.
