Pokémon: Detective Pikachu comes to home media digitally on July 27

When it premiered in May, Pokémon: Detective Pikachu did the impossible and broke the dreaded “bad video game movie” curse. Starring Ryan Reynolds as the titular character, the film was a fun live-action romp into the Pokémon world like we’ve never seen before.

With its theatrical run almost over, the Detective Pikachu Twitter dropped the home media release dates for the movie. The film will launch first on digital storefronts on July 27, followed by a DVD and Blu-ray release on August 6.

Granted, you can already watch the R. Reynolds cut leaked in full online, though it probably isn’t the version of the film you’re looking for. Probably.

In any case, Legendary Entertainment is already on board for a Detective Pikachu sequel. Additionally, Reynolds himself also fully endorses more live action Pokémon movies. With the movie’s box office success, it is all but certain that more Hollywood-produced Pokémon films are coming. Who could’ve known that this all started with a 3DS spin-off? I sure didn’t.

Will you purchase Pokémon: Detective Pikachu once it launches digitally or physically? What did you enjoy most about the movie, and what other Pokémon game would you like to see adapted onto the big screen? Share your thoughts with us in the comments.
