The Pokémon Company announced today that Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl have surpassed 6 million units worldwide in its first week of sales. That puts Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl on par with Pokémon Sword and Shield, which also debuted with over 6 million copies sold.
What makes it all the more impressive is that Pokémon Sword and Shield passed Super Smash Bros. Ultimate for the best Switch launch title when it debuted with over 6 million copies sold worldwide while breaking records in Japan and the UK. Pokémon Sword and Shield opened in Japan with an estimate of 1,364,544 physical copies sold in November 2019. Meanwhile, Famitsu‘s trackers had Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl debut at an estimated 1,395,642 copies sold, giving it a slight edge in its Japanese debut.
With two of the last releases topping 6 million units in its first week, The Pokémon Company is heading into 2022 on a high note. It should be interesting to see how Pokémon Legends: Arceus performs in sales when it launches later next month for the Nintendo Switch.
Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl are available for the Nintendo Switch, and now that we know how well it did in sales, it wouldn’t be surprising to see more remakes in the future.
