Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl hit Switch in 2021

Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl

The Pokémon Company has heard our cries of anguish. Fans of the fourth generation of Pokémon games have been clamoring for a pair of remakes, and today they were officially revealed. During today’s Pokémon Presents we learned that trainers will finally be heading back to the Sinnoh region in November when Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl launch exclusively on Nintendo Switch. Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl revealed

Faithful remakes with a new look

The Gen 4 remakes are finally confirmed! Unlike 2018’s Let’s Go, Pikachu and Let’s Go, Eevee, Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl will feature traditional wild Pokémon battles. That should be a relief for anyone who was concerned after the recent “Let’s go, Sinnoh” tweet. In general, these games appear to be largely faithful remakes. One big change is the art style, which is not only HD, but also quite chibi. It reminds me of the Let’s Go visual style, if not the gameplay. It’s sure to be controversial, but I can dig it. It’s also sure to appeal to a large audience of young fans.

Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl are in development at ILCA, a team that worked on Pokémon Home. ILCA’s Yuichi Ueda and Game Freak’s Junichi Masuda will tag-team development as co-directors. It took a long time, but we’re finally getting Sinnoh remakes, and on the games’ 15th anniversary too!
