Pittsburgh Pirates fan learns Super Mario Bros. is tougher IRL

Super Mario is unique in the fact that so many people grew up playing some sort of Mario game. Whether it was in recent times with the New Super Mario Bros. 2.5D games, or games dating back to the 8-bit era, Nintendo has managed to keep its iconic plumber as a household name.

Even professional baseball knows how much people love Mario. So, why not let them try their luck in a real-life version of it?

If there were a game where you take on the role of a stumbling baseball fan, I don’t know if I’d be on board with it. But if I was sitting in my seat watching a guy attempt parkour over a giant pipe while trying to pummel bricks on a giant screen? Well, I think that’s something that I could get behind.

I will say that watching him fight to the finish line at the end is something out of a bad dream. You’ve finally reached the goal and your feet won’t do what your brain is telling them to, only to leave you to fall into the dirt with exhaustion. Not a very Super Mario Bros. finish.

Super Mario Bros. isn’t the only one to go RL

This isn’t the first time someone has attempted to cross over the digital realm with reality. Just last year, there was a flurry of posts on many viral pop culture websites showcasing what Mario Kart would be like IRL. The videos showed groups of people driving around on life-size karts while dressed in their favorite character bests.

Of course, Nintendo didn’t want a rag-tag group of people dressed in Super Mario Bros. attire while whipping around on public streets. A lawsuit was filed against the company that was putting together these driving events. Nintendo cited restrictions on the use of its intellectual property in the case.

What has been your favorite adaptation of video games into real-life?
