Earlier this year, Nintendo and Niantic announced that a Pikmin mobile AR game was in development, with other franchises to follow. Niantic is of course the developer of Pokémon GO, which continues to connect fans all across the globe. Not much information was available about the mysterious Pikmin mobile game until a beta build was released a week later in Singapore, which included a lot of promising features. In Nintendo’s most recent financial report, the company reconfirmed that the Pikmin mobile game will be launching sometime in 2021. This is what the report has to say about the upcoming title:
In our mobile business, we will focus on continuing to operate the applications that we have released to date, along with the application featuring Pikmin from Niantic that is planned for the second half of 2021, and work on ways to encourage more consumers to continue to enjoy playing these applications.
From what we know so far, Pikmin for mobile will see you growing “Pikmin Seedlings,” similar to Pokémon GO‘s egg-hatching mechanic. These seedlings will then grow into a fully sized Pikmin by walking around to collect “Step Energy,” and then you will be able to send them out on various expeditions. Hopefully more information will arrive in the near future, but we will have to wait and see for the time being.
Pikmin for mobile is definitely scheduled to launch sometime in 2021. Are you excited to play another collaboration with Niantic?
