It might not be the new fighting game you’ve been waiting for, but the Persona protagonists will meet up to compete in a new Persona VS board game that just got announced. The board game will be released in Japan this December. Preorders are now live.
While Persona VS is a board game, it is described as a “Persona card battle game,” emphasizing deck building to secure the victory for your Persona protagonist. It even has its own story that starts in the Velvet Room, where players are greeted by the attendants Elizabeth from Persona 3 and Margaret from Persona 4. Caroline and Justine from Persona 5 are also in the mix.
How to play Persona VS
The board game is a two-player game that takes about 15 minutes for a whole game. You start by selecting one of the three protagonists from Persona 3, Persona 4, or Persona 5. From there, you can summon Personas and get help from allies to defeat your opponent. There’s even a demon-fusing system. Victory is yours upon making the opponent’s HP hit 0.
Persona VS comes with a bunch of cards featuring familiar characters and Personas from the series. It is easy to understand so that people who aren’t great at card games can enjoy it with ease. However, the game also offers plenty of depth with the number of cards. You can make a deck with your favorite Personas and allies to play with your own strategies.
The board game includes three player cards, a Persona 5 deck (40 cards), Persona 4 deck (40 cards), Persona 3 deck (40 cards), two summary cards, and a rule book. Preorder it now on the Banso Store for 2,970 yen (~$26.21).
Persona VS will be available in Japan in late December. The board game is part of the Persona series 25th anniversary celebration.
