The Origami King launch sales are more than 2x Thousand-Year Door’s

New Paper Mario Eurogamer Thousand-Year-Door Paper Mario: The Origami King launch sales more than double Paper Mario sales The Thousand-Year Door

The NPD Group game sales for July 2020 in the U.S. have been revealed. Paper Mario: The Origami King didn’t come at the top of the list, (That goes to Ghost of Tsushima.) but it sits in third place with Modern Warfare sandwiched between. What’s impressive though is how The Origami King sales stack up against previous Paper Mario sales in the series, including those of the beloved Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door.

Paper Mario: The Origami King‘s launch month sales put it ahead of every previous game in the Paper Mario series for the same time frame by a significant margin. The series’s sales history was touched on by NPD’s Mat Piscatella when the results for July 2020 were released. What’s even more impressive is that NPD sales don’t track digital purchases on the eShop. So, The Origami King outsold Super Paper Mario and The Thousand-Year Door without taking digital into account.

Nintendo first-party titles managed to take five of the top 10 places overall for July. Again, this doesn’t count digital, so only physical sales are being counted. Given how well games like Animal Crossing: New Horizons sold digitally, it’d be interesting to learn just how strong these games are doing with digital included. This could all be down to a lack of new first-party releases from Nintendo, but sales are strong nonetheless.
