Setback: Paper Mario: The Origami King has glitch that softlocks the game

Paper Mario: The Origami King

While we here at Nintendo Enthusiast enjoyed Paper Mario: The Origami King, the game has a fair share of game-breaking glitches. Fortunately, Nintendo sprang into action rather quickly, squashing out these bugs via a patch. However, users have found another issue that will need to be addressed. This particular problem softlocks the title.

One day, Paper Mario: The Origami King will be flaw-free

The complication that causes the freezing occurs in the Battle Lab, during the second half of the Boss Sumo Bro rematch. If Mario uses a POW Block to defeat the Sumo Bro while the smaller one is still alive, the game will softlock. It’s particularly amusing to see because the Toads in the stands are specifically telling you to use a POW Block!

You can watch a video of the defect in action below:

Although this glitch isn’t as bad as the other ones, it does force players to restart their game from the last save. The boss battle has to be redone in its entirety. Oh well, nothing another round of patches can’t fix!

Enthusiasts, have you encountered this bug in Paper Mario: The Origami King? Are you aware of any others that haven’t been reported as of yet? Let us know in the comment section below!
