Overwatch on Switch won’t have cartridge at retail, only eShop code

Activision Blizzard Overwatch for Switch confirmed Nintendo Direct leak Overwatch 2

Blizzard Entertainment has released several new details regarding its release of Overwatch for the Nintendo Switch. Most of the new information comes via the game’s official listing on Nintendo’s website. The biggest new detail is that Overwatch on Switch will not have a cartridge in its retail release. Instead, the box will come with an eShop code to download the game. The game will take up 12.1 GB of space on your hard drive. The information was also confirmed through a Blizzard press release. The Switch port will cost $39.99.

“Overwatch Legendary Edition for Nintendo Switch will be available in a boxed version (containing a code to download the game) and digital version via the Nintendo eShop for a suggested price of $39.99.”

Blizzard also made a statement confirming that Overwatch on Switch will not have cross-play at launch. The company didn’t close the door on adding cross-play in the future, but said it must investigate the possibility more before it can start development on the feature.

“We’ve seen how compelling cross-system play can be for our community, and we’re excited about the potential. There’s still a lot of work to do on both our side and the platforms’ side to determine whether this is something that makes sense for Overwatch, and we’re keeping an eye on how cross-play systems and technology develop.”

Overwatch will launch on October 15 for the Switch. Will you be picking this port up?
