Swift was super effective: Pokémon Sword and Shield have outsold the Let’s Go games after 10 days in Japan

Pokémon fever has been going strong since 1996. The most recent games, Sword and Shield, have even beaten Smash Bros. Ultimate as the best launch on Switch. The impressive numbers continue today, as Japan has shared some sales figures for the new Switch games. In 10 days, Sword and Shield have outsold the previous entries, Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Let’s Go, Eevee!

They outsold them by a good amount

This week, Sword and Shield moved a total of 382,540 units, bringing its total sales up to 1,740,084. Keep in mind the latest adventure released less than two weeks ago. Also, this number only accounts for physical cartridges and download cards, so the complete record is going to be higher.

In comparison, Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Let’s Go, Eevee! have sold 1,661,155 units as of last week. The Let’s Go series debuted over a year ago. That’s incredible.

As a fan of the Let’s Go titles, even I’m happy the more traditional Sword and Shield are doing exceptionally well. How they outsold the former so fast, though, is anyone’s guess. Either gamers prefer random Pokémon battles or Yamper is too popular to pass up.
