One Piece: Pirate Warriors 4 gets a sugary-sweet new gameplay trailer

Last month at Anime Expo, Bandai Namco Entertainment revealed a new game based on Eiichiro Oda’s One Piece. The hit Shonen Jump anime and manga sets sail for another Warriors outing with One Piece: Pirate Warriors 4, bringing Monkey D. Luffy and the Straw Hat Pirates to Whole Cake Island. With Gamescom comes our first look at its gameplay, as well as some cutscenes!

As an adaptation of the Sanji Retrieval arc, One Piece: Pirate Warriors 4 pits Luffy and crew against the powerful Yonko with an endless appetite, “Big Mom.” With an arranged marriage between Sanji and Big Mom’s daughter Pudding, all for a political alliance with the Germa Empire (led by Sanji’s estranged family, the Vinsmokes), Luffy winds up getting involved in a bigger plot to take down Big Mom herself in his bid to save Sanji. Aside from Luffy, the game also features new playable characters; Sanji’s siblings Ichiji, Nichiji, Yonji, and Reiju join the Pirate Warriors series, as well as Luffy’s new helmsman Jimbei.

Developed by Koei Tecmo and Team Ninja, the game is currently scheduled for a 2020 release on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. The same team is also currently working with Atlus on Persona 5 Scramble: The Phantom Strikers for the Switch.
