Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent English beta is coming

Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent English release US Europe closed beta test 2022 Square Enix Tomoya Asano

It had seemed like hope had fizzled out for this long ago, but apparently not! Square Enix has announced that free-to-play mobile game Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent will receive an official English release in the United States and Europe in 2022, and a closed beta test is planned for spring 2022. It even has a new Facebook page set up already. This mobile RPG originally launched in Japan in October 2020 as a prequel to Octopath Traveler, which originally launched on Nintendo Switch in 2018.

English-speaking players will find that Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent plays similarly to the original game, except now your party has expanded to controlling a full team of eight party members at once. There are also in-app purchases to generate revenue, since the game is otherwise free to play. Story-wise, the game again takes place on the continent of Orsterra, but three conquerors have taken control of the land for themselves: Helminia, “Witch of Greed” and Conqueror of Wealth; Titus, “Hero” and Conqueror of Power; and Argust, “Playwright” and Conqueror of Glory.

The announcement of a full-blown sequel to Octopath Traveler may not be too far away now, depending on how far along the development team helmed by Tomoya Asano is with Dragon Quest III HD-2D. In any case, an official English release and spring 2022 beta for Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent is more than welcome. More details are expected in the middle of February.
