Famitsu has shared its latest update on Nintendo Switch sales in Japan, and it just surpassed 20 million units since launching in March 2017. Furthermore, sales for the hit title Animal Crossing: New Horizons have topped 6 million units in Japan.

The numbers come from Famitsu’s trackers that indicate that Nintendo Switch sales in Japan passed the 20 million units milestone on May 30, 2021. It took precisely 222 weeks since the hybrid console’s global launch on March 3, 2017. To be more specific, the total from Famitsu’s tracker is 20,018,278 units. 16,168,420 units come from Nintendo Switch sales and 3,849,858 units from Nintendo Switch Lite sales in Japan.

If you’re wondering about worldwide sales figures, the last time Nintendo revealed that it was at 84.59 million units. So that means a little less than a quarter of all Switch sales come from Japan, according to Famitsu’s trackers.

While Japan loves its Animal Crossing, the worldwide figures are currently at a much higher 32.63 million units as of March 31, 2021. However, that still means roughly 20% of all Animal Crossing: New Horizon sales come from Japan.
