The latest Nintendo financial reports are here, and we have the updated figure of Nintendo Switch hardware sales at 92.87 million units. Nintendo sold about 3.83 million Switch consoles during the second quarter of the fiscal year ending in March 2022. That’s a total of 8.28 million units so far in the six months ended September 30, 2021.
Nintendo hardware and software sales
The Nintendo Switch family of consoles has sold a total of 92.87 million units in hardware sales as of September 30. Software sales are at 681 million units, which means 48.6 million units sold during the second quarter. Nintendo 3DS hardware sales still sit at 75.94 million, but software sales are at 387.42 million units, meaning 480,000 copies of 3DS games sold during the last quarter. Since production ended, Wii U hardware sales have been at 13.56 million, but software sales are at 103.42 million units. That means people are still buying Wii U games, 30,000 units last quarter to be exact.
Video game sales dropped by 19.5% year on year. That’s going from 741.9 billion yen (~$6.5 billion) down to 597.4 billion yen (~$5.24 billion). Keep in mind that Animal Crossing: New Horizons drove the big sales numbers from the same period last year, and the results so far in the first half of the fiscal year remain in line with Nintendo’s expectations.
Royalty income saw an increase year on year, but income from mobile content has decreased by 4.6%. That’s going from 26.7 billion yen (~$234 million) to 25.5 billion yen (~$223 million).
