Nintendo Switch hardware sales reach 89.04 million, on pace to pass Wii

Nintendo has released the latest financial reports that give us an updated total of Nintendo Switch hardware sales, which now sit at 89.04 million units. That’s a total of 4.45 million Switch consoles sold during the first quarter of the fiscal year ending March 2022.

Here’s a look at the updated numbers for Nintendo hardware and software sales:

Nintendo Switch hardware sales reach 89.04 million, on pace to pass Wii

As of June 30, 2021, the Nintendo Switch family of consoles has sold a total of 89.04 million units. The total software sales are at 632.40 million units. We also got an update for Nintendo 3DS sales, which is at 75.94 million units for hardware and 386.94 million units in software sales. Meanwhile, we’re still getting updates for Wii U sales, which are at 13.56 million for hardware and 103.39 million for software.

Video game sales for Nintendo decreased by 10.3% compared to the same period last year. However, the first quarter in the previous fiscal year (Q1 FY2021) had a significant boost from Animal Crossing: New Horizons, which was a major driver of the Nintendo Switch platform business. More specifically, hardware sales were down 21.7%, and software sales were down 10.2% year over year. Income from mobile games also declined by 0.6% year over year, but royalty income increased to keep the overall sales level.

The forecast of 25.5 million Nintendo Switch hardware sales for the current fiscal year has not changed. That means Nintendo has three quarters to sell 21.05 million Switch consoles to hit the goal. If Nintendo hits its forecast, Switch console sales will be at 110.09 million units by March 2022. That would keep things on pace for the hybrid console to reach the 100 million units milestone faster than the Wii and PlayStation 4. The Wii has sold a total of 101.63 million units. With the Nintendo Switch OLED release coming in October, we can expect to see the Switch family of consoles surpass the Wii by the end of the year.
