Nintendo Showdown: Breath of the Wild vs. Ocarina of Time

Nintendo Showdown Breath of the Wild Ocarina of Time

Welcome back to another edition of Nintendo Showdown! This is a weekly series at Nintendo Enthusiast, and it requires some audience participation. Every week we’ll compare two (or more) Nintendo games and pit them against each other in a showdown. Your votes decide the winner, so choose wisely. In celebration of the Link’s Awakening remake, we’ve been holding a series of Zelda showdowns. It’s time to conclude that theme with one last competition. This time, we’re pairing up a couple of absolute masterpieces. It’s Breath of the Wild vs. Ocarina of Time!

Nintendo Showdown: Breath of the Wild vs. Ocarina of Time

Ocarina of Time

Ocarina of Time transformed the beloved Zelda franchise into a 3D adventure, and it was an incredible success. It featured an interesting story starring memorable characters, revolutionary 3D combat and puzzle-solving, iconic dungeons, and an incredible soundtrack. It set the standard for 3D Zelda games, and for adventure games in general. There’s a good reason it topped so many “Best Games of All Time” lists shortly after its release.

Breath of the Wild

After years of following Ocarina of Time‘s formula, Nintendo decided it was time to shake things up! Breath of the Wild returned the franchise to its original open-world roots while borrowing many new game mechanics from modern RPGs. The ability to climb (and paraglide off of) almost anything turns the world into one big playground, and an elaborate physic engine gives you plenty of ways to play. It was a fresh, new take on the series and one that immediately resonated with millions of players. It quickly became one of the highest-rated games of all time and the top-selling Zelda.
