The next generation of gaming is officially underway, as both Sony and Microsoft have officially dropped their new systems this week. Microsoft got the ball rolling a few days ago with the launch of the Xbox Series X|S systems, but now we also have Sony swinging in today with the launch of the gargantuan PS5. Naturally, the industry is celebrating the arrival of the new system; the congratulatory messages are coming from all sorts of places—including Nintendo.
Specifically, Nintendo of America’s president Doug Bowser took to Twitter to publically congratulate Sony on the arrival of the PlayStation 5 console.

Mr. Bowser also went ahead and congratulated Microsoft on its launch earlier this week. Speaking of Microsoft, it also congratulated Sony on the launch of the PS5.

This comradery from the “battlegrounds” themselves further proves that the console war really only exists among the hyper-fans who feel the need to justify their purchase by getting embroiled in Internet shouting matches as to which side is “superior”. But, as you can see, the company’s themselves value the existence of one another.
Microsoft’s Head of Xbox Phil Spencer has made a lot of positive comments about Nintendo in the past. Former Sony exec Shawn Layden also made positive comments about both the Switch and Xbox One a while back. Overall, while each of these companies do compete for our dollars, there really isn’t much in the realm of bad blood. And, remember that it’s better for us as consumers for there to be competition. That breeds creativity and aggression to be more consumer-friendly, thus leading to these companies pulling out as many stops as possible to get us to spend our money on them.
As the industry embarks on its journey through a new generation, it will be interesting to see what exciting developments come out of it from all sides.
