Nintendo Labo VR kits reportedly sold out across USA retailers

Something interesting is happening surrounding the availability of the recently-released Nintendo Labo VR Kit. The new set just went on sale a few days ago, and now stock shortages have become an issue in America, as indicated by a post on Reddit.  Retailers across the USA are reporting the kit as being sold out, including large ones such as Amazon. The official listing for the full set is currently “temporarily out of stock”. The cheaper Starter Set is available for purchase, though shipping is currently being listed as being “1 to 2 months” away.

On Nintendo’s official online store, both sets are currently available for purchase, however. Though, there’s no telling how long this will last given the aforementioned situation facing other retailers. So, what could be the cause behind this?

Nintendo has not yet provided an official statement, but it could be a matter of demand outweighing supply. Prior to the launch of the VR Kit, Target held a clearance sale on all previously released Labo sets, indicating that it was trying to get rid of excess stock. So, there is a chance Nintendo may not have produced a hefty amount of stock of the VR Kit just to avoid their being an overabundance sitting on store shelves and not moving. Now that it’s clear that the demand is there, the stock should hopefully be replenished soon.
