Nintendo has finally announced that a Nintendo Direct will occur tomorrow, Thursday, September 23, 2021, at 6:00 p.m. ET / 3:00 p.m. PT. This September 2021 Nintendo Direct will last around 40 minutes and focus “mainly” on Nintendo Switch games launching this winter, which means we will see several releases to tide us into early next year, in addition to probably some teases for things that are further away. With Nintendo, you never know what you’re gonna get — often in a good way.

We may see an update on Splatoon 3, or perhaps the long-rumored Xenoblade Chronicles 3 (or even 2.5D Donkey Kong) will be announced. The final character for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is likely coming. If pigs fly, maybe we’ll get an update on a Pikmin 4 or an announcement of Metroid Prime Trilogy for Switch. And of course, it was heavily reported that Game Boy and Game Boy Color games are coming to Nintendo Switch Online soon (with other retro platforms still vaguely planned for the future). What does seem likely for this September 2021 Nintendo Direct is that Nintendo will reveal its new Switch controller that was teased in a recent FCC filing, because the agreed-upon date to maintain its confidentiality was suddenly moved all the way up to September 24 — which means it will not remain a secret for much longer regardless.
