The Nintendo 3DS has actually received a new firmware update in 2019

New 3DS XL

“The 3DS is dead!” is becoming a very common phrase in the realm of discussion surrounding Nintendo. This isn’t incredibly surprising, considering the fact that the system has been all but replaced by the Switch at this point. Even so, Nintendo has yet to make that call in an official capacity. As evidence of that, the company has actually just recently rolled out a new firmware update for the aging handheld family.

Old dog, and no new tricks

This new firmware update bumps the system version up to 11.10.0-43. The patch notes are as simple as one would expect, with Nintendo simply providing its usual generic description for minor updates:

Further improvements to overall system stability and other minor adjustments have been made to enhance the user experience.

Patches like these are known for usually having to do with covering up security holes in the OS, though Nintendo has never come out and outright said so.

For the record, this is the first update the 3DS has received in nearly half a year; the last was on December 3, 2018.
