Nike is planning to drop a Nintendo 64-inspired Air Max 97

Sneakerheads, 90’s kids and Nintendo fans all have something to look forward to this September. Tentatively, at least. According to House of Heat, a website that follows sneaker news and lifestyle beats, has reported that Nike will be dropping a Nintendo 64-inspired Air Max 97 shoe later this year. There’s no confirmed date for the release as of yet, but House of Heat believes the Nintendo x Nike collab will release on September 26 to coincide with the N64’s 23rd anniversary. It’s expected to retail at $170.

Per the website:

The pair arrives anchored down in grey mesh, in reference to the console’s controller, it comes adorning matching upper overlays, laces and a mudguard glazed with all-over PLAY motifs. The 64’s 3D ‘N’ logo is honored through the splashed of green, blue, red and yellow throughout, colors which also match the vintage controllers buttons.

The silver tongue pulls rock three small dots — mimicking the control input slot on the console’s front — and the tongues displaying ‘POWER’ on the right and ‘RESET’. on the left — you guessed it, just like the 64. Completing the design is a graphic printed insole styled in an ESRB Game Rating icon and a Nintendo-shaped Air Max motif on the heels.

The N64’s colorway bleeds through this upcoming Air Max 97 so well, and with the Nike Air Max 97 being a throwback release to the 90’s, this seems like a perfect homage to the decade. This Nintendo 64 Air Max 97 will surely be a collector’s item, so if you’re hesitant on grabbing these, keep in mind the resale value of special release sneakers. They tend to increase over time.
