HORI has created a lot of different accessories for the Nintendo Switch, but their newest gadget is rather interesting. Its Japanese name roughly translates to “Portable Table Mode USB HUB Stand for Nintendo Switch”. A very odd title, I must say, but its rather accurate when you take a look at it:
As you can see, this contraption is a stand for the Nintendo Switch, designed to allow you to use the system in tabletop mode without relying on the kickstand. It has a USB-C input which plugs into the Switch’s USB-C port which is located at the very bottom of the system. This allows the stand to interface with the Switch in some interesting ways.
Not only does HORI’s new contraption act as a stand, it also includes two USB ports on the left side, as well as a USB-C port where you can plug-in a charging cable. This allows you to make use of all sorts of USB devices such as controllers, keyboards and LAN adapters, all while keeping your Switch charged while it’s in tabletop mode. The angle of the stand is even adjustable, so you can pick an angle which is most comfortable for you. This stand more-or-less transforms your Switch into a mini gaming computer of sorts. Definitely not an accessory I was expecting to see!
From what I can tell, this is targetted at folks who want to make use of all these functionalities while their Switch is undocked. This could be useful in situations where a TV is being used by someone else, or isn’t available at all. If you’re interested in picking it up, it’s set to launch in Japan on May 31st for the price of $38.99. If you want to pick it up, listings are already live on Play Asia.
