Boy, yesterday’s announcement of New Pokémon Snap was so wonderful. It’s only been, oh, 21 years since the original game debuted on the Nintendo 64. After watching the trailer, fans noticed something shocking. The graphics in the title look amazing. So much so, they believe the visuals are way better than last year’s Pokémon Sword/Shield. This has lead to my favorite pastime: reading complaints on social media!
New Pokémon Snap isn’t an advanced mainline game in the series
Let’s take a look at some gamer opinions, courtesy of Twitter:
pokemon snap looks so much better than pokemon sword and shield graphically what the hell

I think most of us can agree Sword and Shield looks terrible next to Pokemon Snap graphically. Come on man, Pokemon SWSH graphics aren't due to it's "art style", it's just shitty

Those are words specifically chosen to wound. I’m sure Sword/Shield will recover, however.
I do not believe it is fair to compare these two projects. First of all, Bandai Namco is in charge of developing New Pokémon Snap, not Game Freak. Second, the photography game is smaller in scope and on-rails. The RPG title has more going on under its hood and I can understand some concessions being made to have it run smoothly on Switch.
Enthusiasts, what are your thoughts on this topic? Does it make sense to juxtapose New Pokémon Snap and Pokémon Sword/Shield, even though they are in two different genres? Let us know your opinions by leaving a comment below.
